What is Seasoning?
You may be asking what seasoning a cast iron pan entails. Seasoning refers to coating your pan with an oil or fat to create a barrier between the iron of the pan and oxygen (sounds so official.. who knew?!). This barrier prevents against rusting and also gives the pan a non-stick surface.
Seasoning: Step by Step
1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Wash your skillet with warm, soapy water, and a stiff brush. Rinse the pan well and dry with a clean towel.
3. Pour a thin layer of Sizzle into the skillet and circle the oil around to evenly coat the entire surface of the pan.
4. Place the pan in the oven and bake it for 30 minutes.
5. Repeat this process every few months, as needed.
